KathyHowe's bringing back the BIF.
Don't know the rules? No problem. This is easy. All you have to do is either on your own blog or in the comments here say something nice about someone. It could be someone in your every day life, someone from your family, someone you know online or a complete stranger. I don't care who you pick - oh hell - pick MANY someones if you want. Just say something nice about somebody.
And, you know, she said super nice things about me, so who am I to not do as she commands? Because KathyHowe? I adore her. Seriously.
I try not to repeat folks I've BIFed, because there are plenty of cool people to spread the love around to, ya know? Y'all all know I luh ya. That said, on to my picks.
- popcultist - This is my friend Tony, who is married to my friend Brandy, whom I know from college. Tony is that perfect combination of smart and witty and funny. He's one of those guys that knows at least a little bit (but probably more) about a lot of things, so he's always fun to talk to.
- funchilde - Dia makes me proud to be a blogmother. All the vague dreams of world travel that I've ever had, she's already lived them. She's currently out being the coolest staff person ever to set foot on a boat for Semester at Sea. She leaves me the nicest notes and always has something very astute, poignant, and encouraging to say just when I need to hear it.
You should, of course, feel free to BIF yourself. (Heh. That sounds dirty. Not as dirty as "diddle" but you know.)

It's that time again, folks. I think I missed BIF VIII, but I'm back!
For those of you new to this, it's really simple. All you need to do is pick someone (or sometwo or somethree) off of your blogroll and post on your site just why you feel that they are linkworthy. Why the heck did you link them? Why are they given that place of prominence over there on your sidebar? Are they funny? Are they wise? Are they just too damn good looking to pass by? Let us know about them.
I'm-a start with my friend Sherri. Lasadh, she tells me, is Gaelic for "flushed." Sherri's whip-smart. Ballsy. Sassy. She just ran the NYC Marathon. She wants to go to Madagascar on vacation. She's an aspiring pastry chef. She has an evil streak. She made me take a picture fondling the giant balls of that bull statue on Wall Street.
I'm-a also go with my friend Casey. All I'm Saying is that Casey is totally not what you'd expect from a girl who was raised as a Jehovah's Witness in Idaho. She's still in Idaho, but no longer a JW. She's not allowed to publicly discuss her employer, but I'll say that she goes by the nickname "Ranger Barbie." I can also attest to the fact that she owns an ungodly number of boots.
Both these ladies are great folks, and great friends whom I've known for going on five years, though I've only actually met them a grand total of three times. Check it, yo.

Buzz has announced BIF VII. *trumpets*

Plus think how tickled they'll be to see their name on your site.
This time around I'm going with Tiffany of Blown Fuse. Girlfriend is a trip. She can make the most mundane of daily happenings into entertaining moments. She's damn funny. I just like her style. She taught me how to fold fitted sheets, and she's currently using the word "entropy" in her tagline. Love it.
UPDATE: She speaks!

Today I shall point you toward Dawn from Caterwauling. Dawn is sassy, she watches trashy tv, she tells it like it is, and she has no shame (well, maybe a little) (but just a little). She's a dirty, dirty girl, and I love it! Plus she's been super supportive lately with all my work bitching, for which I am much appreciative. I suspect we'd get along pretty well should we ever meet up. *ahem*JournalCon*cough*maybe*
And if I had known this was coming, I would have saved that bit about Mac for today. I enjoy Mac because she tells a great story, she stands up for what she believes in (and she's nice and liberal), and she just has a knack for making the every day stuff entertaining and interesting. She's super nice, too. And she's prolific, this one. Lots of good stuff every day.
The word has come down from my main man, Buzz that today is BIF V.
Your task today will be to pick someone (or sometwo or somethree) off of your blogroll and let us know why you feel that they are linkworthy. What is it about them that prompted you to link them? Are they funny? Are they philosophical? Do they produce wonderful photographs? Maybe you just feel a kinship towards them.
This is getting harder to do. I'm not kidding myself into believing I'm bestowing huge honors on people by BIFing them. But I take this seriously, ya know? Okay, I won't bore you with my entire thought process and BIFing policy and I'm totally overthinking this and I'm getting to the point, I swear. (I'm loving using "BIF" as a verb, by the way.)
All that said, the first pick was a cinch. It's the fabulous Kelley of Suburban Blight. Because I met her and I luv huh. I wish I could find a better way to convey it than, "she's the Bomb Diggety!" but that's all I got at the moment. As for why you should read the blog since we don't all have the pleasure of actually hanging out with Miss Kelley (and I wish I did more often), it's a good mix of personal stuff and issues and personal takes on the issues. Which I like because too much talk about "the issues" bores me to death (with a few minor exceptions), and I drift towards blogs where I can get a feel for the person behind it. She smaht lady and her sense of humor jives with mine.
I first ran across Suburban Blight... I think it was last summer some time. Didn't pay all that much attention but I knew she was out there, this "conservative lady blogger from Atlanta." Her links get around. And then I found myself on AIM with her a few times and, ya know, a little interaction with someone goes a long way. That cuts both ways, of course, but in this case it was a good thing. So anyway, meeting her just amped all those positive vibes up a hundred notches because she is all that and more. Luv huh.
My second BIF target is Natalie from Picklejuice. Natalie's one of the longer residents of my blogroll. She's the only local blogger I'm interested in meeting that I haven't yet. She's... um... kinda out there sometimes. I think it's just that her sense of humor is more highly evolved than mine (where by "sense of humor" I mean "neuroses" but I mean that in the nicest possible way). Anyway, she runs the gambit on topics, defies categorization, and can work up some vim and vigor on anything and everything. Most times, I finish reading a post and am left thinking, "Huh?" Above all, she just seems pretty cool and I see a barbecue and some beers (and wines, and liquors) in our future. And thanks to her I now use the word "sexswah."
I'm trying to remember how I even found her in the first place, as I'm sure I discovered her before I discovered GeoURL, but I can't. I think one of the first comments I made over there had something to do with cute pictures of Nico.
Anyhoo, that's my fifth installment of Blog It Forward. Feel free to share the love and participate.
The rules are really simple. For those of you who are new to this, all you have to do is pick someone from your blogroll and post (on your site) just what makes them blogworthy. Whassat? Ok, you can pick two people. What? Ok fine, three if you must! Be sure to track back to this post so that we can all find out who you chose and can discover some new sites.
This time around, I'd like to point you towards Hillary Blough and Steven Cherry. They're activists and concerned citizens of Ypsilanti, MI. I'm pretty sure I first came across them via GeoURL or some similar aggregation of (then-) local blogs.
What I enjoy most about them is their passion for their community and their home state. While I personally have decided that I can't get with Ypsi or Ann Arbor or Detroit or Michigan (you get the idea), I really hope that someday I'll find a place to live that I'll want to immerse myself in the way they've gotten involved.
Hillary occasionally posts the responses she receives from her congresspeople. Let's not forget that Steven put up the Brick Dick. And they both just seem like really nice people. I enjoy keeping up with the local goings on through their eyes, which is a perspective I never really had before.
There's all of the usual bloggy stuff, too, so in case you're still scratching your head over how to pronounce Ypsilanti, mosey on over and check out Hillary's shaved cat and 10 LPs that Steven doesn't care to hear ever again. And tell them I said hello!
This is the third installment of this nifty little thing called Blog It Forward that Buzz came up with.
The rules are really simple. For those of you who are new to this, all you have to do is pick someone (ok, two. ok, three if you must) from your blogroll and post (on your site) just what makes them blogworthy. Be sure to track back to this post so that we can all find out who you chose. This is a great chance to spotlight someone on your blogroll that maybe isn't getting the attention that they rightfully should. It's also a great time to tell us all about someone who has made a difference in your life. Or maybe it's someone who makes you laugh out loud at work every day.
So today I'd like to point you towards Ms Lauren of Feministe. What an incredible young woman. She's a proud feminist. She's so intelligent, and so amazingly articulate. Her passion for learning and for writing is clear. And she's pretty damn nice, to boot. For a chick, anyway.
I'd also like to reiterate how much I lurve me some KathyHowe. Seriously. Besides the fact that she's just a fun person to hang out with, Kazoofus constantly reminds me to notice and take joy from the little things in life. KathyHowe is a Happy Fun Ball of wit and positivity. And highly lickable.
The mission:
You simply pick someone off of your blogroll (or link list) and tell us why they are link-worthy (alright, you can pick more than one if you must). It's a great chance to spotlight someone who just isn't getting the recognition they deserve. Or maybe you'd like to tell us about a fantastic writer that gives you pause every day. Maybe you just want to point out someone who makes you laugh every day. There might even be someone out there who has changed your life.
When I hear "fantastic writer" I immediately think of Rossi. She's smart. She's sassy. She's unabashed. She's hot. She's vulnerable. She's funny. She's spot on. She's hot. She's self-publishing her Memoirables. She's been there. She's done that. Oh, and she's hot.
I'd also like to direct you to The S-Train Canvass. He's opinionated. He stands up for himself and what he believes in. He won't take no shit from nobody. He sent me the nicest email saying he found my blog while looking for other Detroiters. He's a reformed gangbanger. He surprises me sometimes.
The mission from Buzz: share the love.
Your task today will be to pick someone off of your blogroll (or bloglines, linklist, bloglink, etc) and post a little something about them on your site. Tell us why they are on your list. What makes them link-worthy? Perhaps you'd like to spotlight someone on your list that isn't getting the attention that you think they should. Maybe it's someone who has made a difference in your life. Maybe it's someone who just puts a smile on your face every day.
I'm a day late, but I couldn't skip this one. It was harder to do than I thought. My blogroll is long-ish because, well, there are lots of people I enjoy (and there are even more that aren't even on the blogroll). And then I decided I was thinking too hard about it. So here are three people I particularly enjoy.
The first is my little younger sister Emily. When we were young, we got along okay as long as our mom managed our fights. When I hit puberty we started to fight more. When she hit puberty we started to get along better. She's grown up into a very smart, sassy, delightfully potty-mouthed young woman. And she's even cuter than I am (if you can imagine that).
The other two are my boyz David Strain and Dave Tepper. David has no fear, has no shame, and has soul oozing from every orifice. He's a writer and a singer and has a knack for bringing an experience to life with his words. Dave is just the sweetest nicest little thing you ever did see. He's smart but not overbearing about it, and he's chock full of legal advice. These two are at the top of my list of bloggers to have drinks with (or smokes, heh).
