5 Years

Today we shall commemorate five years of publishing at this here address on the internets.

*commemorates*

I spend a lot of time working on Metroblogging these days. I've spent some time offline talking about working on Metroblogging. I realized that I don't talk at all over here about what it's like to work on Metroblogging. It's got its own challenges, rewards, and "interesting" things, some of which are specific to living here.

I've shied away almost entirely from talking about anything local here, since a lot of y'all reading are not from the TC. But, you know, this is about me, and part of me is living here. So there ya go.

So there's this.

  • What kind of new project could I introduce to the Twin Cities that I can make time for and do well. For free.
  • What it's like to be the captain of Metroblogging Minneapolis.
  • How this local/hyperlocal thing works, in different localities/hyperlocalities.
  • How awesome the Twin Cities is for people who are doing interesting things.

And there's this.

  • How I don't feel as compelled to blog here anymore. Which is freeing, and makes me want to blog more, actually. Also, Twitter fills the void a bit.
  • The more I get involved in, the more important it is to me to catalog/archive all that in some way.
  • How to exist in, give enough time to, and satisfy multiple circles of friends/interest.
  • Not to get caught up on the personal branding bandwagon, but the more I get involved in, the more important it is to tie it all together. How do I want to do that?

And then there's this.

  • Missy is so wonderful. Life with Missy is so wonderful. This could get repetitive.

So much to think about, so little time to think.

In other news, I can now get to my blog from work again. This will help. It's all about capturing this stuff in the moment.

I have no good closing.

8 Things

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

I've been tagged at least twice that I know of.

The Rules:

1. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
2. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged write their own blog post about their eight things and include these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged and that they should read your blog.

1. HABIT: I'm a knee bouncer. I wouldn't say I'm a particularly nervous person, but my knee is always going. I don't even notice it.

2. FACT: My doctor scolded me about taking vitamins 2 years ago and I have taken them religiously since. Just added a calcium supplement to the mix. I'd probably get more out of eating healthier, but it's better than nothing.

3. HABIT: When I first get on the internet, I go to the same sites in the same order. To the point that hitting those bookmarks is muscle memory.

4. FACT: Y'all have heard me say this before, but easily one of the best things I've ever done in my life is join the Twin Cities Women's Choir. Singing is fun, performing is thrilling, and the people are great. Not to mention that's where I met Missy, which leads me to...

5. FACT: Missy's The One. Seriously. I don't know if I'm more amazed by her, or by how incredibly easy it was to come to that conclusion. No, she's the most amazing thing ever. But it was really easy. That level of absolute certainty is extremely comforting. I've talked before about balance in life and how if you have balance you shouldn't need a relationship to make you happy. But, you know, that is some mighty tasty gravy.

6. HABIT: I'm a terrible procrastinator. Which I attempt to deal with by micromanaging myself to death. Post-its, lists, lists, and more Post-its and more lists. It sometimes works. I was amazingly productive for that three-month period a year ago when I was the only person in my department. No personal email or internet at work at all. Voluntarily. 60-hour work weeks. So I know I can do it. I guess that speaks to my job satisfaction, because it's not like I don't have stuff to do.

7. FACT: I'd say another one of the best things I've ever done in my life is start the Couch-to-5k program. Now that it's harder to work into my schedule, my enthusiasm for running has diminished. And I'll never be a great runner. I'll probably never even run a marathon. But it's amazing how good a good run can make you feel physically and how good it can make you feel about yourself.

8. FACT: Okay, this isn't about me, but it's Missy's birthday today. And my grandma's. And Malia's.

Aaaaaand, I don't tag. And everyone else has already done this (or passed on it). So there.

I'm Smitten

I finally got my Smitten with the Mitten t-shirt and stickers in the mail.

Smitten with the Mitten

It's been an all Michigan all the time week for me. I was pumped for the football game that shall not be named. I'm pumped for Shock basketball. I've worn some sort of Michigan themed apparel nearly every day this week. I'm wearing my 313 t-shirt now.

You'll note this is pretty much all based on sports.

As posted (mostly word for word) at the TCMB.

Missy and I had two gift certificates to View, so we went out for a nice Sunday evening dinner. Ate on the patio, enjoyed our meal, and decided that a post-dinner walk around Lake Calhoun was in order.

The weather was lovely (okay, maybe a tad hot), and surprisingly it wasn't terribly crowded. I'd thought for sure with the long weekend that people would be out and about, but I suppose the hot scoping action takes place during the afternoon and not so much at 7:00 in the evening.

We're coming around the south side of the lake, right where you cut over to Lake Harriet. I'm enjoying my surroundings, enjoying my girlfriend's company as we walk hand-in-hand, and generally thinking about how great life is. Think soft focus and clouds and birds tweeting and cheesy music. The whole 9 yards.

And then I hear "Y'ALL CUT THAT SHIT OUT!"
