Long Run Sunday

Haven't checked in in a while. This is gonna be a long one.

File under You know you're a runner when...

The half marathon training schedule I'm putting myself on calls for a two-mile run today. I thought, "Hey, I'll make it a time trial for the PFT." But then I got the email from Running Room with the schedule for this week's practice sessions. Tonight they will be running hills. I actually thought to myself, "Ooh! Hills!"

The Get in Gear 10k a couple weekends ago was both very good and very bad. The Boyz were visiting and T ran it with me. He's all fast and stuff, so he went on ahead. I finished in 56:37. That's a 9:06 min/mile pace. I have no idea how I did that. My "run for fun, not for time" idea went completely out the window. I didn't even feel particularly spent after that one, like I did after the St. Patrick's Day 10k. I was kind of chasing someone throughout the second half of the race. And the weather was so gross (rainy and about 45°), I must have just been trying to get in out of the cold. Except that we didn't get in out of the cold right away and the 45 minutes between the end of the race and getting back to the car were awful. It was very well put together. I just wish the weather would have been nice enough to enjoy it. I suspect a fair number of people didn't show on account of the weather, but there were still several thousand runners for both the 10k and the 5k.

The MN Runners LJ community asks:

What is the PR that you most want to break? Can you just not break 30 minutes in the 5K? 2 hours in the Half? Do you consistantly run a certain time in a race and you want nothing more than a different time?

I was pretty proud of my Get in Gear 10k time. Based on that, according to the McMillan Running Calculator, I should be able to do 2 miles in 16:47 or so. My last try was about a minute over that. If I can hit that, I should be good to pass the PFT.

I like the concept of a "runner's feedbag". Actually, I think the concept of a feedbag in general is hilarious.

If I had heard about this earlier, and knew enough people that would be willing to participate, I'd love to run in the Great River Relay. The idea of two-a-days and three-a-days almost sounds fun. There's that weird runner thing again.

And now that I have my desk job, my eating habits have gone to hell. When I get bored, I want something flavorful to sip on, which usually ends up being a cup of sugar decaf. And I haven't been drinking nearly enough water. My food cravings have been outrageous and I think the lack of water has a lot to do with it. Salty, then sweet, then salty, then sweet. I've gone through so much ice cream lately, it's ridiculous. Folks here like to go out to eat, especially on Fridays. I need to stop eating out so much. I need to better manage my afternoon snack so that I don't get home ravenous (and all pissed off from my commute, to boot) and head straight for the nearest ready-made hot meal. Except that I can't run with all that in my stomach, either. Such a dilemma.
