It doesn't matter how "zippy" your browser might be if your internet connection just sucks. I suppose I ought not to complain, since I'm getting the cable internet for free at the moment, but in two months I'm going to have to start paying for it, and it ain't worth the discounted rate of $30/month.
Anybody know off the top of their head if the wireless router would make that much of a difference? The one I have now is a 1 MBps dealio and is almost four years old. I was thinking of getting a new one.

If this were me I would definitely get one of the 100mbps routers. We started with a 30 I think, and the next day I went out and got the 100. It's SO much better!
I have Apple's Airport Express, which is 54 Mbps and I haven't had any speed problems. Although, I've never used 100Mbps, so I guess I can't compare. But I can play iTunes to my speakers wirelessly, so that makes me happy. :-)
What kind of router do you have? Is it an 802.11b one? 802.11b router are suppose to be 11 mbps, but typically run at 4-5 mbps. That is kinda slow for a network, but it's faster then most people's internet connection. Routers are cheap now days though. I picked up my 802.11g router for 30 to 40 bucks.
I think part of the problem is our incoming cable internet is a little slow to begin with. And I read somewhere that encrypting your network slows it down a little.
I called my friendly neighborhood tech consultants, The Boyz. They said basically if I go to any computer store and by any 802.11g router, I'd be fine. That said, if I'm patient enough to wait a month for my birthday when they come to visit, they may happen to have an Airport Express on hand....
