Camino Goes 1.0

No alpha. No beta. The real deal.

And in case you're wondering (as I was) why you don't/won't get those nifty Firefox-esque plugins for Camino, it's because "extensions only exist because of the cross-platform UI layer upon which Firefox is built. It’s that same cross-platform UI layer that makes Firefox feel 'wrong' on Mac OS X. Camino’s use of Cocoa for the user interface makes it fit in with the rest of the platform, but prohibits us from using extensions."

Dear swirlspice,
I found your blog randomly a couple of months ago, and I enjoy reading it every day. However, I wish you would have given your readers some warning that you were going to start writing in Greek. At least amuse me and tell me this post was written in Greek, otherwise I feel like a dumbass.

Dig it! I abandoned Camino when I tried to use it for a work project (we send out e-mail broadcasts) and there were funky characters everywhere. Ugh. I had been told not to use Camino, but the thought of being married to IE was enough to make me hang myself with the mouse cord. I'm happy to give it another chance -- thanks for the pointer! (and I *~*heart*~* the Solitaire for Mac -- you know all the cool stuff!)

In short:

Camino is a web browser. It's made by Mozilla, the same people that do Firefox. But it's made specifically for Mac instead of being made to run on Macs and PCs (like Firefox). Cocoa is what makes Macs and Mac programs look pretty.

Thanks for that, I feel enlightened!
