Face Transplant a Success

The first ever recipient of a face transplant, uh, shows her face. There's a photo of her in that article, but I think a before and after might be more interesting.

Found via zuzu at feministe who, upon reading that the woman was the victim of a dog-mauling, best sums up my own thoughts with, "I just can’t fathom passing out and having my dog chew my fucking face off."

This is PRECISELY the reason why I don't own any pets (not even fish). Those creatures need to be free to roam. Not looking at our weird azz everyday. Heck if I was a dog, I would be plotting against my master every frackin' (Battlestar Galactica plug) day. The nerve of you to give me a dry bowl of beefy flakes and a dish of almost warm water! Where's my damn latte?!?!?!

Wow, that came out a lot better than I expected - she's not all Frankenstein-y. Personally, though, I'd rather have three photos. Pre-mauling, post-mauling, and post-transplant. Ever since I heard about this story, I wondered what it looks like to not have that part of your face. She went without it for a long time. I assume it was bandaged, but I wanted to see it. Am I a sicko?

I've been wondering where the heck are the before pictures as well. I have a friend who's aunt had her nose taken off by a pet monkey...ouch. At least the only threat in our house is the cats will either suffocate someone or Sumi will lick someone to death.

I am going to remind myself of my grandmother for a second, because she knew someone who died doing pretty much anything. But my cousin's husband died and his dog chewed off his face. Now, the cops said the dog got to him first and he died after that. But I think he got drunk, passed out, probably fell into an alcoholic-induced coma and then the dog went to munchie-town.

I never knew dogs had a taste for human flesh. Man's best friend, my ass!

Someone in the feministe comment thread said that they heard that the dog actually saved her because the chewing woke her up.

Oh, fucking gross.

This story horrifies me in ways you can't imagine. Every time someone talks about it I fear that I'm going to bite my own lip off. No idea why, but FUCKING GROOOOOOOOOOOSS.
