I let Fly Girl at my head with some scissors.

A couple months ago I got my hair cut back to shoulder-length. She's been saying all along that it needs some layers and said layers would make it funkier which I could totally pull off if I would quit fretting about it.

I have some aversion to fluffiness in my hair, but it did look a little strange the way it was. So I let her go at it. At first she combed it out dry and snipped some off. That didn't work too well, the combing of the dry curls. So I wet it down and she cut some more.

Which was weird because black folks never get their hair cut wet. Always dry. And in my case, always blown straight. I suspect there's a reason for that, but I don't know what it is. But I figured what the hell, we're being adventurous today.

So she finished cutting and there was obviously quite a bit of hair missing. It looked cool enough, still wet, in the mirror last night.

But then I went and slept on it. It sure as hell looks funky now.

So I'll have to wet it down again and judge later today. Pictures to follow.

UPDATE: Fine! Here's a crappy camera phone picture. FG took this photo.

My new hair.

Please take note: Black Hair 101. We 100% 'folks' get our hair cut dry because we are paranoid about the length. We don't want anymore than 1/100th of an inch cut off that shit and we're watching you like a hawk! Incidentally, my last hair cut was done by a black chic and before I realized what she was doing she started trimming my hair WET as in BEFORE I had gone under the dryer and had that shit combed out, scalp greased and whatnot. I was HOT, that was some whackizzle from a sistah stylist.

Now you know!

I'm fully expecting my hair guy, Todd, to say something about the cut when I go see him next. He's gonna think I cheated on him.

My hair's usually pretty smooth and straight after the relaxer and the shampoo and conditioning, right before I go under the dryer. I wonder what he would say if I asked him to cut it then.

I'm thinking it's a texture issue. I Googled a little and couldn't find anything.

Patience, people! When I left for work yesterday, it was still wet, and I didn't take any pictures when I got home last night. I just wet it again, so you'll get your pictures in an hour when it dries, mmmmkay?

I think you are right about the texture issue. It seems like when wet my hair is a little longer/flexible and its easier to cut more total length off that way. Your hair prolly grows alot faster than mine as an Afr. Amer. and we are generally paranoid about the length. I think we get a "truer" cut when its dry!

:) I do want to see the pictures too. I've been very anti-layers too. I had some done when I was looking for a new look after my oldest was born.... not good. Some people can pull it off and it looks great, then some of us, well we just can't. Looking fwd to seeing the pics.

I really like the hair! Of course, I'd think you were beautiful if you were wearing sackcloth and ashes, so I'm quite biased.

Thank you Neil and fun. I'm glad somebody said something! All that ribbing and then I put the pic up and hardly nobody has anything to say. Is it that bad?
