How the heck does that work? Nothing he said on that page made any sense at all to me.

In a nutshell: AOL bought out Weblogs Inc. for a sum variously estimated at between $25 and $40 million. At the lower end of the scale, and based upon the number of people who link to Weblogs Inc. sites, this works out to $564 and change per linked site.

So if AOL were paying the same rate for your site that it did for Weblogs Inc.... well, this little toy basically adds up the number of sites linked to a blog (per Technorati) and multiplies it by $564 and change; the number of links fluctuates, but in Erica's case, it averages about 89, and if you do the math, it comes to the $50k in the box. (Not that I'm one to blow my own horn - I can barely see my own horn - but I come in with around $163k on this thing.)
