Computer update. The hard drive is dead. It's outrageously expensive to recover the data. It has Apple Care (I didn't know that, hallelujah!), so hopefully the fix won't be a big deal.

Here's where the divine intervention comes in. The first (and only, really) thing I thought about wanting to recover from the hard drive was pictures of Fly Girl. But you know what? I have a few of her saved in my webspace. I have a few actual photographs. Who needs all those other pictures? I didn't have any critical documents. All the music and video can be re-downloaded.

Toss the drive. Proceed. Easy decision.

For those wondering about my frequent iBook difficulty (cuz boy did I hear about it at work).... The two that I've dealt with have exhibited the same pattern. Two logic board failures followed by a hard drive failure. They're both from the same known-to-be-defective make/model/whatever. So that does kind of blow. But I'll make do with what I've got since I can't afford to buy a new one. I've mitigated some of the risk by coughing up for the firewire drive. And when I do buy a new laptop, it'll be a Powerbook. I've got too much mental capacity invested in Apple to switch back to a PC.

*Did anybody notice that that's a Mariah Carey song? I love me some pre-hooch Mariah.

Damn. Sorry about the iBook problems. I thought they'd been fixed long ago. :-(
