Computer Love
My iBook is at First Tech having its mind wiped. Something about a corrupted directory structure.
I took it to the Apple Store where they "demo-ed" DiskWarrior for me (i.e., ran the program on my hard drive without charging me for it). Everything I read on the internet said if DiskWarrior couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed and the only way to save it is to back up the data, wipe the hard drive, and reinstall OS X.
Of course DiskWarrior couldn't save it. The guy at the Apple Store (who helped me last fall when the logic board and power management unit blew up) told me to find someone else with a Mac and mount my drive on their computer so I could back it up. Which is fine except that I don't know anyone locally with a Mac. I considered posting an ad on Craigslist, but I decided I'd just ask the professionals to handle it if it doesn't cost too much. (BTW, First Tech is the place to go in the Twin Cities for all your Mac needs. Probably better than the Apple Store.)
And we all know how great I am about backing my shit up (which is not great at all), so after dropping the iBook off at First Tech's service center, I marched right next door to their retail store and bought a firewire drive.
A few hundred bucks for the repair and a backup drive I should have bought a long ass time ago is still better than paying for a whole new computer. Much as I'd love to have a 12" Powerbook.

Wow, you sure do keep having problems with those iBooks, don't you?
Yeah. And it kind of blows. Owning an Apple is like owning a BMW. When it works it's fantastic, but when it breaks, it's a lot more expensive.
