Hosting Issues Settled
So, I had signed up with DreamHost. I knew they didn't support MT, but I didn't think that would be that big a deal. And it wasn't. Or, I didn't get far enough to find out if it was or not.
The big deal was that they don't use cPanel and that makes it a pain in the ass to transfer the site. I was prepared to have to do a lot of FTPing and stuff, and I was even willing to give their special control panel a try. But they wouldn't touch any question I had about MT with a ten-foot pole, even if I disguised it as a question about mySQL. So I reached into my Fuck It Bucket and had a piece of candy.
Surpass was my close-second choice, so I signed up with them. Mel kept telling me they just transferred all her stuff for her and that I should ask them about it. Turns out, if you switch between hosts that both use cPanel, the new host can go right in and do some juju and transfer your entire account over completely intact. Sweet! Didn't know that about the cPanel.
Didn't have to reinstall/reimport MT. Didn't even have to change passwords on my email accounts. There were a couple of small tweaks. The first: Now I have a reseller account so my two domains have their own space, instead of one being an add-on to the other. The second: I have a new account id, so I had to go into MT and change a few file paths.
I think I'm most excited about being able to have all the domains I want. I only have two, but I can think of one more I want to get. Plus I now have the freedom to play with MT 3.x on my other domain without mucking too much with this one.
I just requested cancellation from DreamHost who has a 91-day money back guarantee and so is supposed to refund me my money, no questions asked. Hopefully that will be processed in a timely fashion, and then this whole thing will be over with. *crossing fingers*

DH gives me no kerfuffle about my MT installation, and it's ancient (2.64); perhaps they're just weary of the system overhead that comes with these things and are trying to discourage them. (I notice, for instance, that they offer a WordPress blog as a one-click, sort of, freebie.)
Anyway, I've never known DH to go back on its word once given, so I'm pretty sure they'll make good on the refund.
I've been with surpass for about a year and i like it for the most part..Alot of webhosting companies don't support MT because it crashes there servers(you should check with your webhost to see if your blog script is supported)..Have you ever tried textpattern or wordpress??
I thought transferring the dreamhost before i decide to buy a reeller account the 50 dollars setup fee it too much for me..
Keep everything you get about canceling DreamHost. I was with them for a year or so, about three years ago, and I still get one or two emails a year saying that I owe them money for hosting or renewing my domain. Every time I email them back and tell them that I've had my domain and registry elsewhere for years and they say "Ooops! Our fault! It won't happen again!"
Until six months later. *sigh*
