In the Market for a New Homepage

I have no need for My Yahoo as my browser homepage anymore.

I don't use my Yahoo mail account, but some people keep sending me shit there, so I feel a need to periodically keep checking it. The easiest route to notification was glancing at My Yahoo, because I don't IM with that acct. But I just installed YMail, so that takes care of email notification.

All my news comes via RSS, so I don't need the headlines. Yahoo never been a reliable source of airfares. I go directly to Yahoo Maps* if I need to map something. The only thing I might miss is the sports scores, but I'm sure I won't even miss them and if I really want to know I can find them elsewhere.

I've been telling myself to just make up my own portal with MT, but I'm not even close to getting around to that.

Anybody have a homepage they like?

*I regularly use "mapquest" as a verb, but I rarely actually use Mapquest. I like Yahoo maps. And I haven't played with Google Maps enough to have an opinion on it.

No suggestions on the homepage but I will say that I love Google Maps! Carla and I used it when we were in Chicago and it was really handy. Also check out http://www.us.map24.com/

(1) Google Maps rule. They display an almost frightening level of detail.

(2) For a home page, might I suggest GeoffBrown.net? IT's not likely to be even close to informative, but it would be nice to know that someone's checking in on a daily basis.

It's so funny you mention this. My Yahoo was my homepage ever since I got online a few years back and I just switched to My Way. It has a lot of the same content as My Yahoo, just without the ads and all the Yahooiness. I tried out the MSN start page, back when I was on Charter and they had their own little deal going with that, but it sucked and it was hard to configure.

Have to agree with Geoff on the Google Maps really do rock.

Ugh. I meant to say: Have to agree with Geoff on the Google Maps thing. THEY really do rock.

Yes I can speak and type English. Really!

Boring, I know, and probably more useful for work, but I have Google as my homepage. :P Google can take you everywhere.

I made my own a while back: http://www.amanita.net/start.html

It is desperately in need of updating, as I no longer play Lunatix, surf Iwon, etc. I do still refer to the "Site Stuff" and "Personal" sections on a regular basis, but everything else I haven't touched in a loooong time. (I do look at the WeatherPixie.) I should probably re-evaluate my browsing habits and develop a new start page. It's not that hard to create one, Kristine (kadyellebee.com) has done one too, I think through MT as you suggested. Mine was just hand-coded.

I keep saying that I am doing to build my own jump page, but never seem to get around to it. My homepage is currently set to Google News.

I've set the WaPo as my homepage, although I rarely use it. Yahoo and MSN and iWon I don't like at all. I'm too ignuht and lazy to roll my own.

Maybe Google is the best choice, come to think of it.

google maps makes me wet myself. it's so perfect.

My homepage is google.com I use it the most, so why not?

If I'm not gonna do a portal, I kinda like the idea of Google News.

My browser (Camino) has Google-searching built in, so having Google be my homepage is a little redundant.
