What would you do with a windfall?
Usually when someone asks this question, it's about how you would spend, like, a million dollars. You know, something of "I done hit the Powerball!" proportions. When you answer it, you think in terms of how you would set yourself up for life.
Fly Girl and I recently talked about this, and it was more along the lines of "You have $1000 to spend this weekend. What would you do?" Setting aside the fact that I would immediately plunk that chunk down into whatever credit card payment was due next, it was quite fun to think about because it's actually somewhat realistic. It could actually happen (maybe).
We basically agreed on clothes shopping, eating, and massages. I'd throw in an electronic toy like an iPod.
So, how would you blow $1000 in a weekend?

"Blow" being the operative word. Heh heh heh.
I don't even know if I meant that euphemism to be about sex or drugs.
Anywayz...
mp3 player, digital camera, shoes shoes shoes, nice dinner...
as i mentioned in the whitney post....
get on a plane to vienna or barclone, for an arty weekend or a party weekend, depending on my mood
Airfare for the family to New Orleans.
and shoes
Options:
1) throw a kick ass party
2) travel somewhere fun
3) splurge on all sorts of things - clothes, electronics, food, and/or stuff for my house.
Fly me and the fiance to San Diego to a quiet beach bungalow for the weekend.
Barring that, buying myself an iPod, some yummy and expensive wine, clothes shopping for Ms. Bayou... whatever tripped our fancy!!
Neat question. :)
Vacation. Bryan and I need some time alone, away from everyone and everything, in a Really Bad Way.
Either that, or in the "not blowing it" fashion, sticking it in the savings account that is currently woefully low.
definitely a vacation.. somewhere warm with blue water.
I'd have to go with paying off the credit cards. $1000 would almost do it. If I'm not allowed to do that, probably buy some toys for Nathan and Shan, and a spa day for me.
I'd get Lasik surgery on one eye...and save up to do the other.
You ask this right after I paid off the last of my orthopedic surgeon's bill? :)
Put away some money for rent, and then buy a mac mini with the rest.
If my rent were already taken care of, though...
New York City for the weekend. I've never been.
1.Take mom & aunt to NY to see ave Q/Wicked
2. Massages & Golf School at Ballantyne Resort
3. Hottie Stripper(s)
I'd probably buy some new clothes. I'm terrible about not buying clothes when I really need to.
I'd be über-responsible with it and put it into my health savings account. I'm a stick in the mud like that.
If I was being completely selfish and irresponsible with it, I'd buy myself a plane ticket to Ireland and spread the rest out for hostels and nourishment. Sigh....
If I was being partly responsible and a tiny bit selfish, I'd get an ipod, a few books and CDs, and pay off a credit card.
All y'all debt-payer-downers are missing the point! I'd realistically pay down my debt, too. And, actually, my second choice would be to travel somewhere.
Forcing myself to buy myself (and FG) lots of presents (and relax) was a different approach for me, so it was fun to think about it that way.
But if y'all wanna be all practical about it, go ahead. :P
MAC
Not to copy you, but I did blow $1000 just two weeks ago... and an iPod photo it was...
Airfare for a weekend jaunt to LA and a massage.
I would probably stash it in a savings account and sit on it, but if I had to spend it as part of the agreement it goes as follows:
2 tickets to the EA 500 at Talladega. 2 nights In a hotel, flight arrangements and the whole nine yards. I am a huge Nascar fan and have always wanted to go to Talladega.
