Last Weekend in The D
Just to catch folks up in case anyone was wondering, last weekend in Detroit was good and bad.
Short: Wedding bad, Sunday dinner good.
Long:
The wedding and reception sucked. I mean, it was nice enough, but I didn't feel like there was anything particularly special or unique about it. You could have swapped out any ol' couple and it wouldn't have mattered. Actually, I take it back. There was one unique thing about it and that was the video at the reception that was actually just a photo slideshow set to music with yellow Comic Sans titles. I could have done better on my iBook.
I suppose a wedding is as much a party for the parents to show off their kids (if they're the ones financing it) as it is about the couple. That's totally what this felt like. The Mother of the Bride repeatedly stated that people came from 15 states to celebrate with them. On top of that I noted only a handful of people my (and the bride and groom's) age. Um, where were their friends? Enh.
Dinner on Sunday was good. I was sort of expecting the full Thanksgiving spread, but we just had lasagna and wings. Which was perfectly delicious. The relatives that I like — my mom's mom and sisters — came over. And my dad's spinster sister was there (not Hoss). She was bearable.
But the best part was that my sneaky mom and sister conspired to have The Boyz come over for dinner, too. Bruce was unable to make it because he was busy working, but Tim was there. Totally a huge surprise. Made my day. And he brought Creamsicles (i.e, Faygo Orangepop and vanilla vodka). Mmmm... creamsicle... :9
Looking back, I'm a little surprised. Having T&B come over was apparently my mom's idea, and Emily did the leg work. My mom is generally approving and fond of all my friends, but I had sort of gotten the impression that she was less than thrilled with the vast quantities of time I spend with T&B when I'm in town. Time that I am not spending with her. When I mentioned that I already had arrangements, courtesy of Tim, to be home for Christmas (but also be up north for New Years), she didn't really respond. Maybe she was just trying to keep a lid on the surprise. So I was greatly reassured by that.
And somewhere in there Michigan blew it and got whooped by the Fuckeyes, but Iowa saved our asses by beating Wisconsin, so we're still going to the Rose Bowl. I hope we can snap our bowl losing streak. We keep making it to these BCS Bowls and then losing. Also, the Malice at The Palace occurred while I was flying in on Friday night. All I have to say is that the particpants, players and fans alike, are equally shamefully responsible, and the punishments seem appropriate to me.
Also in there I fielded a call from none other than Lachlan! Wheeee! It was great talking to her, though I regret having to cut it short because my sister was dragging me into Target. I ended up with a whole new wedding outfit. I have pics, but they're not really that great. And I'm too lazy to upload at the moment.
So, not bad for a weekend in The D.

Faygoooooooo! OMG how I miss the stuff. :( The diet raspberry creme (I think--diet raspberry something) was the bestest. And rock and rye just made my childhood. Glad to hear that time in the Homeland wasn't a total suck-fest. :) Hope you avoided the snow that's struck recently (my mother keeps telling me excitedly how much there is in Muskegon, and I'm all like 'good for you--happy shovelling'). Ahem...sorry for rambling.
What, no Vernors?
Fuckeyes?!? I can't be your friend anymore.
Unless you bring my orange faygo. Or the red kind.
Rock and Rye is really good with SoCo. Redpop is my favorite, though.
I'm not really a huge fan of Vernors or ginger ale in general. Blasphemy, I know.
Sherri, you got a deal. ;)
