My Weekend Social Calendar
I did actually leave the house and do stuff this past weekend. And it was fun.
I had Thanksgiving dinner leftovers at Fly Girl's friends' place on Saturday. They have an awesome place right by Lake Harriet. Dinner was great. The company was great. I discovered some new (to me) house music by Tommy Guerrero that I like. This is also where I first tried the booties.
Some friends of mine have been telling me for years that I need to see Drop Dead Gorgeous. We watched that after dinner and it was hilarious. Better than Fargo with the Minnesota humor.
While we were there, Roomie #1 called and asked if we wanted to go to a cabaret at midnight at the Southern Theater. I relay this information to Fly Girl and she says, "Oh yeah! Balls!"
BALLS is experimental cabaret open to artists of any and all disciplines at any and all levels of experience. We invite the artists to do whatever they want for 5-7 minutes. Nothing is screened or censored, so the audience end up as collaborators in our process.
There were a few singer/musicians. A couple guitarists, one of which hangs out in the Marshall Fields skyway (the "good" side, whichever that is), and a guy on keyboards that looked like Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future. There was a piece from a play that's submitted for Fringe. Some poetry reading. Something about feeding raccoons and an epic poem about hosting a Jewish Bakeoff in lieu of the hockey season.
My favorite piece of the night was from an upcoming show playing at BLB entitled The Eight: Reindeer Monologues.
A dark, dark Christmas comedy. Scandal erupts at the North Pole when one of Santa's eight tiny reindeer accuses him of sexual harassment.
As mass media descends upon the event, the other members of the sleigh team demand to share their perspectives, and a horrific tale of corruption and perversion emerges, which seems to implicate everyone from the littlest elf to the tainted Saint himself.
With each deer's confession, the truth behind the shocking allegations becomes clearer and clearer. ...and murkier and murkier.
It's only playing on weekdays. I think I'm totally gonna have to take an evening off work to see it.
Part of Sunday evening was spent rearranging the living room furniture. That was more fun than moving furniture should be. It's easy when you have hardwood floors. Stuff moves around so easily, you don't need to plan ahead so much. You can just Scootch It And See™. The idea was that we wanted to actually use the fireplace in the living room so the furniture needed to accommodate that as a focal point. We've now got a spot for the Christmas tree, too. Nothing dead fell out when we opened the flue, so Roomie #1 lit up a Duraflame. I'm thinking we're gonna have to start scheduling the use of the living room....
And then I skipped out on Game Night to go see Fly Girl. Good times.

...I kind of feel like I'm being cheated on.
Weird.
