I got a call from Apple today. The logic board needs to be replaced for the third time. Since the logic board thing is a known issue with my particular model of iBook, it would have been covered. Except the ethernet port is broken off of it, so the warranty is voided. Even though the broken ethernet port incident occurred a year ago and the ethernet port works just fine and I don't even use it anyway.
So, yeah. $710 for the repair. It's on hold. $710 is about half the cost of a new laptop. I'm sort of thinking maybe I ought to just get a new one and pray that they approve me for financing. I could pull the wireless card and the hard drive out of the old one.
I don't really know what to do. But not having a computer is not an option. Buying a non-Apple is not an option, either.
Apple can eat my balls.

hell, I wish I had the cash to give her..I hate to see people suffer. Being without a computer really sucks.It's like being a teenager and being without a car when you just get your license. That really blows.
sorry too hear that, can you buy a broken laptop on ebay to get your replacement part? the screen of my laptop was stepped on and completeky busted, luckily i was able to buy a broken laptop with a working screen for cheap and then just swapped out the parts.

can you buy a broken laptop on ebay to get your replacement part? -- If I had a PC, I'd probably try and scrape up the parts I need, but with a Mac... It's kind of like having a BMW. They're very particular about what goes where and you can only get your parts from one place. And it costs that much more to service it. But when it runs, it runs really well. Plus, after a couple of bad experiences trying to buy a cell phone, I'm not real keen on the idea of purchasing such a big ticket item on eBay.
There's a teeny little PayPal link waaaay down there in the "Commerce" section. I'm hesitant to be askin', though....
I feel your pain. I just shelled out $125 for a new *battery* for my ibook, and there's never a way around paying Apple directly. If I were you (and i kind of am, since my 2 year old G3 ibook is on the fritz), i'd buy a new one. Don't even mess around with spending that kind of money on a band-aid.
Yeah, get a new one. They are not that bad. You can get a decent new one for like $1200. Sucks tho that you gotta get one at all...

I love my Dell laptop, but it's a completely different beast.
At this point, I'd spend a bit more and get a new one. Then send the old one to me ;P
*grins* You mac slaves are so silly. Unless you work in graphic design a mac is not important. And unless you are a major gamer or computer illiterate Money$oft is not needed. Linux solves everything. Go Tux!

Aside from the cost factor, I prefer Mac to Windows.
Why?
-security (hello! how many security patches do you see released for Mac OS'S?!)
-Ease of use
-Flexibility in networking
I love my IBM laptop and used to adore my defunct desktop. But Bayou's G4 takes the cake, hands down.
