So... the move....

I'm in my new place. It didn't go so badly. Sunshine Sinatra was a huge help (and it seems he now reads this site, or at least has been here once and very thoroughly perused it, but that's another post for another day). I slept about 13 hours on Saturday night. I started to get some things put away on Sunday and then I hit the wall right when I had crap all over my bed. Couldn't even take a nap. But I've made decent progress unpacking so far.

I didn't even bother trying to get online. I knew my roommates' had cable internet, but they didn't have a wireless router. I went to The Coffee Shop this morning to get online thinking I couldn't get online at home since I haven't had a chance to put my wireless router in. Wouldn't you know I tried just now and one of the neighbors has an unsecured network. Sweet.

The only place I've changed my address is with the post office, so I probably should do that with all my everything else. I was thinking my address was in the suburb of St. Louis Park, but I was wrong. I officially live in the city of Minneapolis. Woot!

I had lots of closet space before so I had a whole lot of clothes hanging up. I have very little now, so I'm forced to either get rid of more clothes or be more diligent about putting things seasonal things and stuff I don't wear much in storage. I love this getting rid of stuff thing.

I'm at the point where I can't put much else away in my room until I get some shelves. I saw some stackable shelving options both at Target and at Kmart that I liked. I don't need anything fancy, just something sturdy. I need to think vertical. I don't have a lot of floor space, but my ceiling's a decent height. I'm trying to figure out what to do with my electronics because I'm giving up my entertainment center. They might not fit in the shelves I was looking at. I'm hoping they fit in the crates I have. But I have to empty the crates first, but I kind of need the shelves to put the crate contents on first (it's all books and CDs). Meh.

And there's a bunch of other settling in stuff. Putting my food and dishes away. Making use of the various closets.

This apartment is pretty big. I didn't realize there were anything but single family homes (that I could never afford) in this neighborhood, but my house and at least the one next door are split into duplexes. We're in the upstairs duplex. The common areas are pretty big, and my roommates' rooms are twice as big as mine (I sure hope they're paying accordingly).

However, my use of the living and dining room will be limited because of the cats. Those damn cats. With their hair and their dander. Trying to sneak into my room and rub their asses all over my pillows. I think a trip to the doctor for allergy meds is in order. We have hardwood floors which seems to make a big difference (as opposed to carpet), but I still get sniffly.

So, yeah. I'm getting settled. I was so glad to leave that other place behind. I love this area. I've got the perks of the suburban things like a grocery store with parking right nearby, as well as proximity (like, walking distance) to Uptown and lakes and lots of paved trails. Hopefully I'll get out more, even just to take walks. It's a little more scenic over here.

So far, so good.

There she goes, all big-city girl on us now. She moves inside the city limits, finds a grocery store and someone else's wireless. Next thing you know, she'll start pretending to be grown-up, responsible, mature, and stuff. ;^) [Say it aint' so!!]

Hooray for the move being over! I'm sure you'll do great there, and find a way to get your stuff all situated. That's the suckiest part of the move, to me... putting it all away in some semblance of order.

When should I expect the invite for the house warming party?

It's not perfect, but it's home. Consider it a place to land while you refuel your sanity. With one major life worry crossed off the list for the time being, you can free up your mental energies for whatever is coming next. I hope you come to love your new space, and I congratulate you for having the strength to make it happen!
