She's no Jennifer Beals, but....

Somehow, during the course of an 8.5-hour day of work in the recent past, I managed to develop a little crush on my supervisor.

I have no idea where this came from. Maybe it's just because I've had occasion to talk to her one-on-one a bit more often lately. About non-work-related stuff. And I made her laugh. I made eye contact, and I made her laugh. She's got a cute laugh. She sort of bursts into it.

On the whole, she's actually pretty nondescript. White girl, chin-length straight brown hair, big brown eyes. She's got a scar from her lip up to her nose. You can't quite see the actual scar, but her lip and nose are a bit oddly shaped. Kind of a quirk. I want to know about it, but that's one of those things you can't just ask people about. I completely out of the blue found myself thinking about kissing it.

She's totally straight. Gotta be. Except I know nothing about her. It's weird. I googlestalked her and found out that she spent a semester abroad in Spain and she played golf in college, likely on scholarship. Not a whole lot of info, but that's two things I didn't know about her. I know she just went on a vacation which involved boating on Lake of the Ozarks. (I got the impression it was a family vacation, but who knows, she could've been hanging out in the Party Cove.) And that's the other thing. She didn't say it was a family trip, but she didn't say it was with friends or a boyfriend or anything else, either.

It's a stark contrast to Stupidvisor who bragged about her shit all the time, and other, more gregarious folks we work with who just volunteer stuff in the course of conversation. That's the thing is we never really have the opportunity to just have normal conversation. But I think part of that is that she's super conscientious about the boss-employee thing, too. Erring on the side of caution, whatnot.

She patted me on the back the other day. She was trying to get me to do something I didn't want to do (things that sound dirty, but aren't). Not like I wasn't gonna do it, but I gotta give her a hard time about it.

If she weren't my boss, I might ask her if she wants to hang out. Not, like, just with me. One of those "my friends and I are gonna be at XYZ on Saturday night, you should come" or "we're playing volleyball at Lake Calhoun and we need another player" kind of things. She falls right into what I'd consider to be my peer group. Young professional types. Down-to-earth-but-not-nerdy techies. Even though I'm totally slummin' it right now. Maybe one of these days when I actually make plans to go do something I'll revisit the idea.

I was less than busy yesterday and spent part of the day wandering around the building. The main mission was to find a couple of rooms that I didn't previously know the location of. I also turned up some places I could potentially go if I didn't want to be stumbled upon, if you catch my drift.

She's too cute.

Well thank goodness for that, the picture is gone!

It may be on your desktop, but at least the images have stopped running through my mind, for now anyway. I can hold out for the redhead.

Oh gads, girl. Repeat after me: I will not crush on my boss. I will not crush on my boss. I will not, etc. It's just that it's like Sting said: It's a bad way.

Of course, it really couldn't hurt to discuss your "career path" with your supervisor. You know, where you talk about your education and experience, and what you REALLY want to do for a living. And of course, how you'd love for your supervisor to help guide you in advancing your professional career within the company. ;^) [[Note: I believe all the stiff business-type people call this "mentoring".]]

Mentoring. Yeah. Except that she's younger than me.

I'll have to come up with some kind of issue to discuss.

Wow -- a reason to look forward to going to work! I swear, I develop work crushes to keep me from quitting. :) Isn't it cool to just have something FUN to think about?!?!
