No pranks today, and nothing else interesting, either.

My high school was on the 11:00 news today. They were talking to a couple of students and the counselor (Hi, Mr. Frankhart!) about the U-M admissions cases heard in the Supreme Court today. Based on what I’ve read about the proceedings, I have hope. If anyone reading this happened to be in D.C. to show some love (or not), report back, please. Now that Jesse Jackson’s done with that, he’s free to head to the Middle East to negotiate for prisoners….

April Fools: Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban stages fisticuffs with an official during today’s game against the Hornets. Not entirely unbelievable considering he had a half million dollars in fines last year. He even had the coaches fooled.

I feel like crap. Wah! *pout*

I went to DC! It was awesome. I don’t think I have ever encountered so many Michiganders outside of the state of Michigan.

Re: SHS–What did JACKASS have to say?

He said he does not support race-based admissions and he’s seen some admissions decisions that “raised his eyebrows.” And of course they talked to one black girl who’s already been accepted and one white boy who’s on the waitlist. The boy basically said he’ll be bitter if he doesn’t get in, but of course the black girl deserved to get in anyway.

It was weird watching the story because they were showing students walking around in the halls and I swear they walked past *my* class picture and I was all “that’s it!” and then they showed someone’s varsity jacket before they even said the name of the school.

I can name some of those eye-brow raising admissions. Emily and I encountered one of them (and her breasts) at Skeepers a few weeks ago.

  • http://www.swirlspice.com Erica

I cannot believe y’all went to S’keepers. Of all the places to go…. *shakes head*

    $1 PITCHERS!

  • http://thewatergirl.blogspot.com the watergirl

oh, god, not s’keeper’s. many a thursday night was wasted (in every sense of the word) there … but not TOO many …

  • http://www.livejournal.com/users/bridgettes Bridgette

lol. There is a certain wretchedness and high level of disgust I feel when I go there for my yearly visit.
Debate this though: Emily said something to the effect of being there makes her long for MSU. Shall we take it _that_ far?

  • http://www.swirlspice.com Erica

I’m sorry. Emily said what? Emily that took me to “happy hour” at Rick’s said S’Keepers made “long for” MSU? I’m gonna chalk it up to your youthful innocence and hope that some day you’ll enjoy a good beer (Old Rasputin is, like, 9%) and just go to Ashley’s like the grownups do. Or, for the love of God, go later in the year and go to Dominick’s.

  • http://thewatergirl.blogspot.com the watergirl

mmm, dominick’s. first warm friday (well, next one), i’m taking off work early and hitting arbor-town!

  • http://swerlspice.blogspot.com Em

And of course, this girl and her breasts defines herself by the athletes she conquests (is that a word?).

Hey now, hey now. As for Skeepers, let us not forget the $1 Long Islands that, for some unknown reason, came in half-sized glasses and had absolutely no liquor in them.

As for “happy hour” at Rick’s, we got there pretty late, so it was technically no longer happy hour, though my definition of happy hour at Rick’s essentially means Friday before 10 pm.

And yes, I shall go so far as to say that Skeepers made me long for MSU. At least when I go to an overcrowded bar in E.L., I will get a drink that actualy has some alcohol in it; Updown DJs (as ubquitous as they are) will NOT be playing the Dixie Chicks; I won’t be surrounded by Ann Arbor types; and I won’t get kicked out of women’s hockey party for being with too many black people. God damn Ann Arbor people.

  • http://swerlspice.blogspot.com Em

I almost forgot. Erica, I believe we have divergent bar styles.

  • http://www.swirlspice.com Erica

    Yes, Em. That we do.

Wait! Women’s hockey party? Why was I not called?

  • http://www.livejournal.com/users/bridgettes Bridgette

Soooooooooooo not worth it! (My apologies if I posted this twice.)

  • http://www.livejournal.com/users/bridgettes Bridgette

    Oh yes.
That damned girl and her damned breasts. They weren’t even nice. “The Big L” my ass, you little, not-smart skank.

  • http://www.livejournal.com/users/bridgettes Bridgette

    One more:
This began as the affirmative action rally thread.

  • http://swerlspice.blogspot.com Em

Oh yeah, affirmative action. Well, I feel the need to vehemently defend my school. No hard feelings, of course.

Yeah, I cannot believe she referred to him as “the big L.” Like he’s gonna fucking call her. People like her are the reason that shitty third-string football players think they are the fucking shit. That and their personal cafeteria, football complex, student athlete support center, crack-smoking QB who somehow gets another chance (and who I saw the other day), and countless other “perks.” Fuckers. Don’t get me started on the disparity between academic full-ride scholarships and athletic full-ride scholarships. Though I do understand the importance that revenue-sports have on the livelihood of my university. I am long-winded today. Good lord.
