So fucking what.

I fail to see how the fact that Barack Obama’s great-great-great-grandfather owned slaves has anything to do with anything. This is seriously pissing me off.

It pisses me off even more that the media keeps freaking reporting on it! Don’t keep putting that shit out there! They read through the whole thing about these stupid ass genealogists and give it a good 5 minutes, and then spend another 30 seconds weakly stating that it shouldn’t matter. They halfheartedly condemn the folks who did the research and made it public, but they keep giving it a voice.

IF IT DOESN’T MATTER, STOP REPORTING IT.

!!!

It has zero impact on how he grew up or who he is as a person. He’s under no obligation to “address the matter” as if he did something wrong. Hell, he probably didn’t even know that until just now when this report came out.

Gah!

The attack machine will stop at nothing. I can’t believe it’s already 2008. :-)

Ugh, already! I agree with you, Erica. It’s just so much BS, and designed only to cloud the issues.

Whuh? Barack Obama? I haven’t seen that anywhere, and I thought I read a lot of news. Where the heck did you see it?

  • http://www.swirlspice.com Erica

I heard it once on a talk radio show, and again on an ABC News radio blurb.

There’s this “exclusive” in the Baltimore Sun, but I’m not seeing a whole lot of it coming up at Google News. So maybe that’s a good thing it’s not so widespread in print (yet?).

Although, in the grand scheme, do more people listen to the radio than get their news on the internet? I’ll even watch the evening news tonight to see if they talk about it.

The best is Al Sharpton’s great-grandfather was a slave for the family of the late Sen Strom Thurman (freak).

He was on the Daily Show Last Night to address THE ISSUE.

The issue? Are you serious? It’s ironic, but an issue?

I get that slavery is bad. I understand that until recent history, ie: just before I was born, we kept the African-American/minority population as second-class citizens without voting rights.

But…women didn’t have those rights either. And women in the Middle East STILL TODAY!!! don’t have these rights.

Not to mention how badly I feel when I sign my married name becuase my husband bought me…from my father. The irony. I think I should address the nation about this immediately.

    Amen, Miss N!

I don’t see the big deal in this either. Probably like a majority of the white people leading this country now, had ancestors who owned slaves, and I don’t think that’s a big deal either. They can’t help who their ancestors were.

As all my predecessors were pretty recent immigrants, I don’t have any slave owning in my family tree. But you know what? Even if I did, I didn’t do it myself! Jeez.

I think the Sharpton thing is pretty hilarious, though. I mean, what are the chances?

Most American blacks have slave owners as ancestors. It’s called “rape”.
