I signed up with them because they convinced me that it would be worth $60/year for them to run my credit report once, to monitor my credit on a monthly basis (and send me monthly reports that say “congratulations! no one gives two shits about your credit this month!”) and supposedly check on a whole bunch of other things like who has my medical records.
I saw the annual charge hit my credit card in December, and I remembered that I had been meaning to cancel the service. So I called ‘em up and the person I talked to on the phone of course tried to convince me to keep the service, which I politely declined. They then said that the cancellation procedure was for them to send me some papers which I would have to sign, confirming my cancellation, and send back.
December goes by…. Half of January goes by…. I still don’t have the papers. So I call back and tell them when exactly I called in December (because I remembered to write it all down this time, because I’m pretty sure I tried to cancel it last year and then forgot about it) and the whole thing about the papers, and the lady on the phone said that she didn’t know why the other person told me that because I can cancel over the phone. And I’m all summummabitch. And then she tries to convince me to keep it because security is all the more important these days plus the annual fee has doubled and I can lock in at the low low rate of $59.95/year. I politely declined (again), and she says the annual charge from December will be removed from my credit card in the next one to two billing cycles. My memory’s a little hazy, but I’m pretty sure when I signed up in the first place it didn’t take two billing cycles for them to charge me.
