Historic Minnesota Marriage Equality Poster: Dorothy and Betty Crocker

One of my Project 515 Communications Committee members has, for almost a decade, run Poster Offensive, “an independent, non-partisan poster show, which utilizes the politically potent medium of the poster to showcase contemporary interpretations and critiques of political and social issues.”

Two of the posters from last fall’s Poster Offensive 6 — “Paul Bunyan and Jolly Green Giant” and “Dorothy and Betty Crocker” — addressed marriage equality in Minnesota. Timely, as Minnesota had spent 18 months in a campaign which ultimately defeated a freedom-limiting, anti-marriage constitutional amendment. The Minnesota Historical Society has added these two posters to its collection.
