NCMR 2008: Panels I Wish I Could Have Gone To

I’m attending the National Conference on Media Reform here in Minneapolis this weekend.

There was so much content crammed into this weekend. It was good to have 90-minute sessions so you could really dig into a topic, but that also meant there were a lot of panels going on at a time.

Here’s what I was interested in that I had to skip:

There’s video already to be seen, and more audio and video on the way. Everyone should be able to catch up on what they missed, whether you were here in Minneapolis or not.

I went to a couple of the sessions you mentioned. My favorite one was actually the Minnesota Model session. I wish I took better notes, but hopefully they’ll throw up a video.

Sarah Lutman from MPR and American Public Media gave some great examples of how they use social Web. One was about the Tweets they received from people during the Obama event at the X, and other was how they use YouTube videos for The Current. Good stuff!

I was actually hoping for more substance during the New Media, New Models session. It wasn’t bad but I was expecting a lot more about Twitter, Flickr, Facebook, etc.

MPR/APM does a much much better job on this front than any other major media outlet in the Twin Cities. I heard they’re developing and packaging their Public Insight Journalism initiative such that other stations/shows can implement it. For example, Marketplace has a whole PIJ component to it.
