Yesterday I bought a ticket to fly to Detroit next weekend. (Last minute, much?) Thank you, Northwest, for holiday sales. This might be the first (only?) time I am truly pleased with Northwest Airlines. No last minute special. No 14-day advance purchase. Just a little luck on the timing on my part.
There are always plenty of frequent flyer flights available between Minneapolis and Detroit (even though the fare is never cheap), so I had been putting that off, figuring I could easily get the flights I needed on short notice. I had a ticket that I had purchased that I never used. The $240 sale fare, plus the $100 ticket-change fee, minus the $300 credit meant I only paid $40 out of pocket. To fly in a week, shortly before the largest traveling holiday of the year. And I got exactly the flight times I wanted. Late on Friday night, and late on Sunday night. And now I can still earn the FF miles, plus the bonus mileage for this promotional thing they’ve got going on right now.
Go me.
