When you’ve never lived alone (that single college dorm room doesn’t really count), there are a few things you take for granted that you don’t realize you never personally owned until it’s too late. Like a can opener. Got a nifty little garlic press, but no can opener.
So I had to go to the grocery store at 1:30 a.m. Yes, had to. I had a hankering for a cup of coffee, and the new can I just bought had an actual metal can top and not the peel off top. I was gonna pass, but I knew I’d want a cup of coffee with lunch the next day and it was highly unlikely I’d be up early enough to go to the store beforehand.
The grocery store is only a mile away, so it was no grand excursion. I was still dressed anyway. Plus, I learned that the gas station right by the grocery store is open 24 hours. That’s good information to have. So I accomplished two things on the trip.
Yay, can opener!
