Pet Peeve of the Week

People who can’t write.

This is probably a repeat. But it’s bothering me again. I’ll never be a fabulous author as far as books, magazines, newspapers, whatnot go. But I can bust out a technical document.

You would think your run of the mill chemistry lab nerd would be able to to do that. Such is not always the case. I can review for content, but I’m not going to waste my time editing your shit because your grammar sucks. You know the FDA is going to read this, right?

Sheesh.

Bonus pet peeve: I can’t seem to access my mail server at work anymore. Not through Thunderbird. Not via the web. *grumble* I don’t even spend that much time on the internet at work, but if there is one thing I could do, I would really like to be able to check my email.

I feel the pain. And that SUCKS about not being able to check email!

Have you tried using Portable Firefox too check you’re email at work? (end bad bad grammar joke. . . now.)

My company blocks quite a few sites including gmail, myspace, etc., but if I use Portable Firefox it somehow bypasses the restrictions. Not sure how it would work with accessing your mail server, but it could do the trick.

I think you’re probably closer to “fabulous author” than you think; your signal-to-noise ratio (which has to be good to write tech stuff) will serve you well in other areas.

Have you tried using Portable Firefox — I don’t have a PC at home (that I can use), so I haven’t. But if and when one becomes available, I’ve got a dongle all ready to go.

your signal-to-noise ratio — This totally tickles me. Must be the engineer in me. (And thanks!)

    Oooooooooooo….

This post reminded me that I have a few pet peeves I’ve been wanting to air publicly.
