My Swank Neighborhood

For starters, my roommate happened to leave a piece of mail from the city regarding his property taxes and it just magically leapt into my hands, unfolded. Anyhoo, poor guy’s house has been reappraised at $20,000 more than last year. Which makes the Fair Market Value $198,000.

Let me reiterate that I certainly can’t afford this shit. I’m just here because he’s charging me el cheapo rent under the table. This blows my mind. This is a townhouse, not even a standalone. I would expect the low-end houses around here to go for about that much, but not this townhouse. I need to get into real estate investment.

Anyway, I haven’t bothered to look up anybody else’s property values in the neighborhood, but I did check to see what kind of campaign contributions have been made.

Use the location search (on your home address) to find those who live near you that have made presidential campaign contributions. You can also search for friends or celebrities by name.

There are some big dawgs living in my zip code. Executives at big local companies. A CFO, a partner at KPMG, a Senior VP at Target, a bank president, the controller for a utility company, a financial services company president, a few other assorted directors. Sheesh. I feel po’.

That Neighbor Search site is interesting, and its results are frightening. I wonder if I can somehow incapacitate a large number of my neighbors to prevent them from heading to the polls this year?

I wish I had a chunk of otherwise nonearmarked money to give to my candidate. Grumble grumble.

Honey, we is all kinds of po at my house…but my ZIP code? Heh. We’ve got Atlanta Braves. We’ve got Atlanta Falcons. We’ve got Hawks. We’ve got Bellsouth veeps, CNN muckety-mucks, and the Big Guy at Home Depot. And hey, we’ve also got Bobby and Whitney!

They haven’t made any contributions, though. Don’t y’all know Bobby ain’t got no money?!? (That’s what he told the judge, anyway…)

No one on my street gave any money to campaigns but damn there are a lot of republicans around! And apparently they each have $2000 to give to the Shrub. Makes me wanna cry.

Fascinating. I found that the majority of the people in my ZIP code donated to Dubya. I found that one of the partners at the lobbying firm employed by my place of business donated to Dubya. And I found one of my friends’ made a contribution to Howard Dean. There were a few people who donated like $25 to Al Sharpton. Aww.

I checked my old address and my new place. Way more dems than repubs in general but more repubs near my new place :( And the contributions to GWB were usually the full $2K while the other contributions were smaller and to many candidates. We gotta get our shit together, folks.
