Poop Particles

A long time ago, my friend Amy alerted me to the danger of poop particles that fly out of your toilet when you flush, and how they get all in your toothbrush.

Don’t believe me? It’s totally true!

I have put the lid down when I flush every single time since she first told me about this, like, three years ago.

There’s got to be a term for that: fecal vapor trajectory? Waste spray? Misty poo shower?

Heh, they tried to disprove that on “Mythbusters” (that show on the Discovery Channel) and only found out that it doesn’t matter where you put your toothbrush. They left two toothbrushes in a far away room as a control (but used them every day) and found that the same bacteria will collect, just in smaller amounts. The only way around it is to store your brush in Lysol…and that ain’t going to happen.

You’ve heard the one about the bug zappers, right? When they fry a bug, especially a big, fat juicy one, the debris spreads in a six foot diameter around the zapper. So all the shit and garbage the bug may have been in contact with will land on food, clothes and skin.

Yeah, I’ve avoided bug zappers ever since.

Makes me glad I keep my toothbrush encased in plastic. Yech.

I also heard that when we smell B.O. or someone reeks of urine or shit, that we are inhaling those bodily particles. Makes smoking seem so much less gross, in comparison. :)

I saw that episode of Mythbusters. I keep my toothbeush in a drawer, but I don’t know how much it helps.
