I haven’t been using Mozilla Firebird because I’ve been between Safari and Mozilla Camino (built for OS X, whatnot). But I’m all about using Mozilla products over MS ones, so if you have been using Firebird, or are looking for a new handy dandy rave-reviewed browser, try out the new and improved Firebird, which is now known as Firefox.

The only explanation for the name change is “to avoid overlap with another open source project.” I always get Firebird and Thunderbird (both Mozilla products) confused. I wonder if that’s what they meant, or if there’s something else out there. Must be something else because they would have said Thunderbird if they meant Thunderbird.

Also, I noticed that the “Download Now!” link at the top of that page only listed a “Mac OS X, English” option and then a “Other Systems and Languages” option. Which means, I presume, that the webpage picks that info up from each of its visitors and provides them with the corresponding download option. Neato.

Anyway, snag that and give it a whirl. I believe bookmarks are very easily importable from IE.

UPDATE: Here’s the skinny on the name change. Basically, the name “Firebird” was also in use on another open source project and nobody felt like litigating over it.

IE bookmarks import automatically. Or at least they did in Firebird. I went to try and figure out how to import them, and they were already there.
