I Got Off My Ass

The first volleyball game of the season was on Wednesday night.

It’s my Previous Company’s league. My team plays in the recreational division (as opposed to the competitive division). It was kinda funny to see most of the same people on most of the same teams. You know how you recognize people, but you never actually know who they are, just that they play on “that Finance team” or “that IS team” or “that other R&D team”? Marketing people never seem to play in the company leagues. Figures. You know how Marketing people are.

Anyway, it was nice to get out of the house. The heady combination of Hopkins Middle School, dressing improperly for the weather, and exercise that doesn’t actually involve cardio brought back all sorts of memories.

And I had a decent game, despite not having touched a volleyball in a year and a half. I’m no superstar, but I do alright for someone who a) is really short and b) can’t really jump. But I’m not one of those people who really are playing “for fun” despite a complete lack of natural athletic inclination and who you hope the ball just won’t come near and dammit isn’t it time for them to rotate out yet?!

Point being, I got out of the house, I interacted with other people (that I know!), and I had a good time. Saw my Ex-Roomdawg, too. I miss her. She was so clean.

There is nothing in the world like a clean roommate. Except perhaps a quiet one or one who does not eat your food or use your tampons or steal your socks or break your hairdryer or smoke or smell.

I read Bridgette’s comment before seeing her name and I was like, “Some girl used to do that to my friend all the—oh. It”s her.”

It also helps when you don’t have a roommate who likes to pass judgment on all of your personal habits (that have no bearing on her) and who acts like they know you better than you know yourself.

And I also miss your ex-roommie, Irk. She was fun. And she had plates from the caf!

Except for that last month with the loud sex every night, she was a great roommate. Best I’ve ever had. And man did we throw some kickass parties.
