When Animals Attack….

Surfing Star Loses Arm in Shark Attack: 13-Year-Old Surfer Bethany Hamilton Loses Left Arm Just Below Shoulder in Hawaii Shark Attack

The water was clear and there was no indication of danger when a 13-year-old surfing star went out on the waves with her best friend and her friend’s father. But while Bethany Hamilton was lying on her board off Kauai’s North Shore, a shark bit once and then disappeared, taking off her left arm just below the shoulder.

A Much Less Freaky Animal Story….

Hot Water Trick Frees Mountain Lion Cubs

HELENA, Mont. Nov. 2 — …. Pat O’Rourke was inspecting the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe main line near Butte on Friday when he saw three kittens frozen to the tracks. One was on its back and one was stuck by its tail. The third had a paw on a railroad spike and its belly on the track. The young mountain lions apparently had crossed Silver Bow Creek in the 10-degree air before walking onto the steel rails and getting stuck….

The sound of the screaming kittens roused their mother, who was on a nearby ridge. The roar of the angry female mountain lion spooked O’Rourke back into his truck. O’Rourke called for help and Marty Vook, a state game warden, responded. He brought the hot water. O’Rourke said the kittens left patches of hair on the steel tracks. “They weren’t real healthy when they left,” he said. “But the warden said that was their best chance.”

I read about that “shark biting arm” story yesterday. From what I read the girl was pretty calm during the whole thing.

If that was me…I would have starting screaming like a banshee and crying like a baby. I would have fell off my board and drowned…

    Cause I’m overdramatic like that..

And that is exactly what I would have done.

I got to hold a mountain lion cub once. It was like a big-ish regular kitten, but *dense*, muscle-y. It made very, very cute little sounds. I wanted to keep it, but the ranger wouldn’t let me.
