Bad: It’s only because a bunch of people retired. Employers still cut 44,000 jobs last month.
Enh: Consumer confidence and manufacturing are both slightly up.

    The economy picked up a net of new jobs last month though. Historically, the summer’s usually the worst month for new job creation, too. Most of the other signs are positive, so let’s keep our fingers crossed.
